Acrylic Types

All types come with Compression Tube color options: brown, warm white and black. Custom colors are available for large commercial orders. Call to inquire.

  • Standard Grade (STD)

Our baseline product. The clear nominal 1/8" thick acrylic panel provides a great balance of comfort, efficiency, and noise dampening at an affordable price.

  • Acoustic Grade (AG)

Reduces noise coming through operable single-pane windows by 18.9 dBa, which “feels,” subjectively, like a 70% reduction in noise. Reduces noise coming through double-pane windows by 10 to 12 dBA, equivalent to a 50% reduction. STC rating of 42-45 with double-pane windows. Available in Commercial Grade.

  • Commercial Grade (CG)

Have an extra abrasion-resistant coating to provide additional protection against scratching (moving and frequent cleaning). Safe to use cleaners such as Windex. There is no visual difference between the Standard, Museum and Commercial Grade acrylic.

  • Museum Grade (MG)

Protects furniture, carpets, and artwork by filtering 98% of all UV rays from sunlight coming through windows. There is no visual difference between the Standard, Museum, and Commercial Grade acrylic.

  • Sleep Panel (SP)

These panels block all light coming through your windows and provide the acoustic dampening and thermal insulation of Standard Indow inserts. Ideal for light sleepers, night-shift workers, newborns, and home theater audiophiles.

  • Privacy Grade (PG)

Translucent acrylic diffuses light transmission while blocking details and defined shadows. Great for bathrooms.

Maximum Sizes

4x8 Sleep Panel, Privacy 6x8 Museum 6x8, 5x10 Standard, Acoustic, Commercial, Commercial Acoustic. Call to inquire about larger sizes and Mullion Kits. See Mullion Kit Product Sheet for details. Skylights are limited to 2x6 or 3x3.

Color Options

The Compression Tube is available in brown, light linen white, and black. Custom colors are available for large scale orders. Call to inquire.

Compatibility

In order for Indow window inserts to fit properly there must be an unobstructed flat surface perpendicular to the window pane with a depth of at least 5/8" that runs the entire perimeter of the window. We call this Frame Depth.

Common obstructions are inset window treatments (blinds), hardware, hooks, locks, and hinges. Blinds need an extra 3/5" gap between the insert and your window frame.

Solutions for less than 5/8" Frame Depth: In some cases, where there is less than 5/8", removing or replacing molding or installing a jamb extension can create room for the Indow inserts to fit. If the frame depth is just under 5/8", clear swivel clips (G) can be attached to the window frame to hold the Indow insert in place (see below). For complete solutions see our Frame Fit Kit.

Product Features

  1. Acrylic Glazing

A custom cut pane of acrylic forms the main component of an Indow insert and is available in a variety of grades to meet performance needs.

  2. Air Space

An insulating layer of air between the existing window pane and the Indow insert. There needs to be ½" between the window pane and the insert, but 1-4" is better for acoustic performance.

  3. Compression Tube

Silicone tubing with an ABS carrier around the acrylic glazing creates a tight seal and holds the Indow insert firmly in place. It is impervious to heat, cold, UV radiation and maintains its spring indefinitely.

Image shows cross cut of insert placed into a Frame Step to show the distance from the window to achieve best performance. The image also shows the Acrylic and tubing cross cut to share how they are made and fit together.

Additional Features

  • Image shows the back of an insert corner to reveal the corner cut which allows the insert to be easily adjusted when installed.

    Corner Cut Out

A piece of tubing cut from each corner to prevent buckling. This faces out and is not visible from the interior. The elbow-shaped corner insert can be removed for flexible adjustments.

  • Image shows D-ring, used to remove inserts from a window frame.

    D-Ring

A pull-ring is attached 4" above the lower left corner of the insert to aid in removal. Silver d-ring used for white tubing and black d-ring used for brown and black tubing.

  • Image shows a safety chain which is used for inserts larger than 8 square feet incase the insert is ever blown out.

    Safety Chains

Used on windows larger than 8 sq. ft. to prevent the Indow insert from falling out of the window frame in the event of high wind pressure. The Safety Chains are inconspicuously anchored to the window frame by one small screw. Safety chains are not included on some Specialty Shaped windows.

  • Image shows Skylight safety swivel clip used on all inserts to hold them in place when installed into a skylight.

    Skylight Safety Hardware

Required on all skylight windows, using our swivel clips or retaining pins from our Frame Fit Kit.

  • Egress

Indow window inserts comply with egress regulations. In an emergency, occupants should be able to quickly remove the Indow inserts without a tool. In a young child's bedroom, we recommend leaving one window bare with no insert installed.

  • Storage

Many Indow window inserts can be left in place year-round with occasional removal for cleaning. If an Indow insert is removed for an extended period, proper storage is essential. For example, do not lean the insert or store in a way that compresses the tubing or bends the acrylic. See ‘Indow Care Guide' for complete storage and product care instructions.

  • Maximum Temperature Range

Indow inserts should not be exposed to temperatures above 160°F (71°C) for continuous duration, or 180°F (82°C) for short, intermittent periods of time.

We are thrilled with our Indow window inserts! I'd been on the lookout for a more permanent solution to leaky windows in our third floor living space. I discovered Indow on social media but since then have learned of friends who'd had Indow recommended to them by their rennovation contractor. The entire process went smoothly with friendly reps at hand to talk through questions during measuring, etc. They fit perfectly and help us to maintain the beautiful design of the windows on our 100 year old home! Highly recommend!!

For townhouse living, this solved my problem with noise from my neighbor's with my kitchen window. A considerable decrease of noise indeed! Measurements were a bit frustrating so I recommend using a laser measurement device and following directions to use a string for the diagonal. They look great and were easy to push into place. I highly recommend as an alternative to buying a new window.

The process could've been smoother with the sending of the measuring kit. There was a delay with weather in Oregon but then it felt like my kit was still delayed due to other reasons. Most new homes (like mine) have textured paint and it can also be inside your window frames. I measured everything out but I still have little tiny gaps due to the texturing. Not indows problem but just be aware you made need to sand or fill in those gaps yourself to get a perfect seal. I did the acoustic grade inserts and they have reduced some noise but they will not completely block or significantly reduce road noise. This is most apparent with deep or lower frequencies like truck exhausts or modified street racing cars that are quite popular these days. Taking the inserts out to open your windows isn't an easy task. The little metal hook they provide needs to be either bigger or you can attach something to it as a way to leverage yourself. Overall the process was average. I think they're definitely a good option for weatherproofing and some sound reduction depending on the type of windows you have. I would purchase again.

The process for ordering and installing the Indow Widnow inserts was so easy. They sent the measuring information and it had great instructions. The inserts were delivered by UPS was crushed on one corner, but the company had packed them well, so there was no damage. We installed them the same day. It works best if you have two people completing the installation. We felt the results immediately and are glad we spent the money to make our home just a little more efficient.

Our home was built in 1913 and has beautiful old wavy glass single-paned windows. I’m so glad we were told about Indows and didn’t have to replace the original windows. We live in Canada but had no difficulty placing the order and were very impressed by how accurately the company met its deadlines, including cross border delivery. The Indows inserts blend in perfectly with our home and the existing window frames. You don’t see them unless you’re actually looking for them. But what we did notice was how much warmer the rooms feel the minute the inserts were installed! I can’t speak to any heating bill savings because they just went in this week, but our home feels much, much cozier. Our contractor who took all the measurements and installed the Indows says: “Excellent instructional videos: clear and informative. Very impressed with the design and the product. Overall, the ease of installation is quite impressive. Working with all the staff at the company was great – everyone was very helpful.” I’m already recommending this company to any of my friends who live in drafty older homes and want to reduce their heating/cooling bills and do some good for the environment.

Don't be afraid of buying an older home with single pane windows. This company has you covered. Their inserts are super high quality and fit well thanks to the laser measuring kit they send. Highly recommended!

We purchased three Indows to reduce drafts and noise in our bedroom, which faces the street. The improvement was immediate. Our house was built in 1958 and although we have exterior storm windows we didn't want to replace the windows outright due to cost and architectural consistency. These were an excellent solution.

Indow inserts were easy to measure, order and install. They've provided great insulation for old single-pane and stained glass windows in an antique home. We can significantly feel how much better the home holds heat.

I can't say enough good things about this product and company. Our house is 101 years old and the sidelites next to our front door are single pane ancient wavy glass which means when it gets very cold (Chicago temps) we can have an inch of frost covering the INSIDE of our windows. I was desperately searching for a solution so our front vestibule was not so cold and a friend recommended Indow. The process could not have been simpler and the temperature difference it has made is off the charts.
